✥ SINNERS REVIEW ✥ snippet:
[spoiler free]
✥ “This is a movie about music and the outsized, beautiful, devilish role it can play in your life. Most people center their summary of Sinners on the outlaw twins, Smoke and Stack, who have mysteriously traded life in the big city (Chicago) for their old haunt of Mississippi once more.
✥ I immediately took note of how the events of Sinners occurs in the Delta region — known to many Black people, especially Southern Black folks, as the birthplace of sorts for blues music — think legends such as Muddy Waters and Charley Patton, who is mentioned offhand in Sinners.
✥ As a hoodoo practitioner, I took note of the setting because oldheads, Southern scholars, folklorists and real blues fans also know that the Mississippi Delta is a nexus of paranormal activity.
✥ Legend has it that Blues guitarist Robert Johnson — a contemporary of Son House and Patton and Muddy Waters — sold his soul to the devil at the crossroads in Clarksdale, Mississippi.”

hurt people hurt people.
cycles of abuse are perpetuated by those who are wounded.
everyone has free will,
but many live without seeing the larger context.
they're unable to grasp options beyond what they've been taught
through cultural conditioning and societal programming.
it's a shame, but it doesn't excuse their actions.
your feelings are valid, even if you've contributed to harmful cycles.
you were acting from your level of awareness at the time.
acknowledge this, and use it as a chance to grow.

We're homeless, yes. But it wasn't caused by drug addiction.
The biggest stereotype that homeless people deal with is being accused of being on drugs. People act as if one chooses to be homeless, and in our case, that is totally false. We aren't drug addicted either.
So we wrote a piece on substack about this.
We mentioned how our body's father had issues with drugs and addiction, and how seeing him struggle made us not want to bother or even try hard drugs.
We lost our job and got stuck in a shitty situation. That's it.
Please reblog and share this post as much as you would like.

I have a book:
“Where Do We Go From Here?”
After finding a love that is worth sticking by, quitting a job that constantly gave me burn out, and going through trials & tribulations with my self discipline and finances..
Here I am.
What is after this? Those who are in a similar spot, what is next? How high will I go from here? How quick will I rise? How quick will we rise?
Spoken word poems and some extra words for you all at the end. Thank you for supporting in advance.
If you are a Substack user I am on there also.

An attempt at comedic writing and making a serious point about sexism in football. May have not executed it well... but, a point I thought I'd make.

Hola chicas!
Xx,
Anna.

growing up, i had an illness. i was born with it, no one thought i'd survive, or that i'd be frail and sickly my whole life if i did. i am pretty sickly, i'll give them that, but i grew up to be about a foot taller and 200lbs heavier than they thought i’d ever be. i am my parents' miracle, and i have grappled with that my entire life.
read now on substack.

Sharing my latest Substack post on Tumblr in hopes someone will see it and read it. I want to be seen so badly. I'm tired of shouting into the void. I'm tired of being the first and sometimes only person to like my post. I'm still going to do it but I'm wishing to be seen.

It's Christmas, I'm Wishing My Life Away

I’m not going to lie to you. This Christmas has been a bit of a rough one. When I was six years old, I used to beg God or the universe or whatever was out there that could hear me, to let me be someone else and I found myself doing the same thing this holiday even though it’s twenty years later.
I spent the holiday with my aunt and her family so that I wasn’t alone while my dad worked. (Overtime is more important than family. Did you know that?) My aunt is my dad’s sister, but she is everything my dad isn’t. She has never laid a hand on one of her children, to my knowledge she’s never told them how she never wanted them (Thanks dad) and she’s someone I can actually talk too without being told that I’m ridiculous, dramatic and ungrateful.
Sometimes, although I’m grateful not to be alone, I can’t help but get a little jealous when I spend time with my aunt and her family. How come they got the family that love them? My cousins are all well adjusted, successful, independent people and all I’ve heard all my life is why can’t I be more like them? Maybe I would’ve been if my dad had been more like my aunt.
I couldn’t stop thinking about how easy it would’ve been for me to be born into my aunt’s family instead of my dads and how it isn’t fair that I wasn’t. How can two people raised by the same parents be so different. My cousins got the family who loved and cherished them, always excited when they came home for the holidays and I got the family that left me with nothing but trauma and a dad who tells me that he can’t wait for me to leave.
Who would I be if I was born into my aunts family instead of my dads? Would I still be physically disabled? Would I be happier? Would I have been born a boy and finally feel okay in myself? I know for sure I would’ve been loved more. Maybe I wouldn’t be mentally ill and I could finally amount to something just like my cousins.
There’s no doubt in my mind that my dad wished he never had kids, he tells me every chance he gets. What he doesn’t know is that I wish he hadn’t either.
